                MAKING CONSUMERISM MORE ETHICAL

Living in London I'm always amazed by the amount of household  items are discarded in skips, bins. outside renovated houses . or just abandoned on the side of the road. All this 'stuff' cast aside only to be replaced with more of the same, but now newly manufactured with little concern for the worlds resources and the environmental effect.

CONSUMERISM PURCHASING drives massive profits for business' globally  but at great cost to the health of our planet. It's difficult for those who want to uphold their ethical values and make a little difference in saving the  worlds resources without feeling guilty for buying new things for the home' Many of decarded items can be broken down into their separate parts and cleaned up. With a little imagination the raw materials used to design and make something that not even look good, but is completely unique and without causing more damage to the planet.

SOURCING MATERIALS is the most time consuming part of the process. Scouting areas for discarded items that I'm able to bring home and dismantle into parts that can be cleaned up and used in a design. Broken mirrors I find in abundance but often come with flaws that are difficult to disguise, although i try very hard to make it un-notable.

EVERY DESIGN is inspired and reliant purely on the raw materials left at my disposal and dictate the final product. A classic piece of design from our past is usually my initial influence, Art Deco being my favorite. I sincerely  hope that people like my designs  and that I'm helping make a small contribution in the fight against global waste.
